Hobie Fleet 416 was formed in 1980 by a small group of Hobie
sailors dedicated to the sport of catamaran sailing and racing. Now, we are one of hundreds of
International Hobie Cat Clubs that comprise the World Hobie Class
Association! Additionally, we are one
of the largest and most active fleets in our division, located in the Delaware Valley with most
of our members living in South Eastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey.
Since the fleet’s inception, our membership has grown steadily
to become a mixture of novice and experienced sailors who enjoy everything from
hull-flying contests, buoy races on the Chesapeake Bay, and competitive class
racing. The majority of our members are avid, active racers.
We plan year-round activities that help the novice and interest the "pro". A
weekend with Fleet 416 might include attending a regatta, having a rigging
seminar or having a buoy race with a discussion on tactics and practice drills.
Lake Nockamixon in Nockamixon
State Park is “home” for a small group of our members. Located near Quakertown, PA,
it is a central area for many. The Towhican Boat Launch (a.k.a. Hobie Alley) is the best launch site for catamarans as well as
windsurfers. Impromptu picnics,
matchstick races, and fun in the summer sun are all enjoyed here.
Some of our members also spend time at
Marsh Creek State Park,
located just off the PA Turnpike in Exton, PA. This lake is more limited in size, but does provide a quick
getaway for those who live in that area. The West Launch area is most suitable for launching a Hobie.
Come join us for some summer fun! We look forward to meeting you and sharing your Hobie ideas!
